What could be scarier than Hell? A place of permanent and constant pain and suffering, with flame, darkness, the scariest of monsters imaginable (demons) and the unforgettable position of being forever removed from God’s presence. There is no one to save you. Ever.
Something though, I can’t say trumps all that terror, that I consider to also be a part of the eternal damning is that whatever sinful, habitual ways you acted on repeatedly when alive as well as the general person who you were… these behaviours will replay themselves for you and in you, for eternity. Remember that classic line uttered heroically by Russell Crowe as Maximus in the movie Gladiator? “What we do in life echoes in eternity”. I believe this to be true.
Let me give you an example. You lived life greedy and pushed everyone away, wanting to be alone. In Hell, besides the suffering in acid lakes of fire and the decaying and the screaming and wanting the dream to end which never will come, you will have nothing and be surrounded 24/7 (if Hell only had time..) by terrifying beasts poking and prodding you, never left alone.
Or jumping way down on the totem pole of life sins through human eyes… the eternal damnation of a serial killer. His ever waking minute (there is no sleep in Hell) will be the circular playing out of murder but on him by the demons of the fiery pit. In Hell, you can’t die and neither can you live. All day and all night long he is assailed, accosted, violated, tormented, beaten, disemboweled, decapitated and then a second later he’s back together, and they come at him again, though each time with different methods of killing. He is forced to relive his fiendish behaviours on earth, sentenced by the ungodliest judge there ever could be… Satan.
I, for one, am beyond relieved I will never spend a minute in Hell, let alone all of eternity. With a first class ticket to the Pearly Gates, I don’t have to fear life after death. I assume most that aren’t Christian don’t believe there is such a horrible place as Hell and therefore have nothing to fear, or so they tell themselves.
I write a lot about Hell in my soon-to-be completed novel. It all fascinates me incredibly. The constant battle between good and evil, demons and angels, God, his enemy, Heaven and Hell. There is no day without night, and bad without good.
If you are unsure of your place in the eternal realm, please leave a comment and I would be more than happy to show you the way. Or any thoughts at all, feel free to share. This flesh and blood life is a blink of an eye compared to what we will see when our physical bodies die.
